Chapter Sixteen
Tenley
I went looking for Rook the moment I thought the coast was clear.
My brother seemed so relieved that his MC was accepting of me, he quickly started talking to the other guys and discussing strategy with them the moment the meeting was officially over. It was like he was happy to get this weight off his shoulders. I was beginning to see now how close he was to this group.
They were like family to him.
He wouldnât have been able to rest till heâd shared this information with them and till they gave him their word that they would help me.
Cole seemed occupied too. These big burly bikers who usually looked so tough and dangerous on the outside, seemed to have a soft spot. They embraced my son quickly, passing him around and making jokes, making him laugh and Cole seemed happy. In fact, I hadnât seem him having this much fun in a very long time.
In such a short space of time, heâd formed more of a connection with his uncle and his friends than he ever did with his own father.
But now that attention had drifted from me, I decided to go looking for Rook. I was desperate to speak to him and clear the air.
When I did find him out in the porch, I was relieved that he hadnât left but I didnât expect to find him in this mood either. He was making me feel like Iâd made a huge mistake by coming to look for him. Like things were already over between us, without a single conversation.
Like somehow, this was all my fault!
He was being a stubborn ass!
Not once, not even for a moment did he make me feel welcome here. In fact it seemed like he wished Spade hadnât brought me here at all. Like he hated the fact that he found out about Gavin and Cole. Like I should have kept my problems to myself.
And what about his deceit? He refused to accept the fact that him not telling me about the MC was just as big of a lie to me as not telling him about Cole and Gavin was to him.
The truth was that weâd both been deceiving each other.
From the first moment we met at the bar, weâd put on masks and now those masks had slipped off. We should have kept it a one night standâ¦no, in fact, even that one night stand shouldnât have happened!
What was I thinking?
I shouldnât have broken my own personal rules.
I shouldnât have slept with a handsome stranger I met at a bar, just because heâd swept me off my feet!
Now that he was standing in front of me, fighting with me, I knew I was still attracted to him but I also knew he was wrong for me.
After everything Iâd been through with Gavin, it was important that I protected my heart. I couldnât allow another man to hurt me, especially not hurt my son. Besides, pursuing anything with Rook was going to be impossible now that I knew he and Spade were best friends.
